In this crazy and fast paced world, we sometimes lose focus of the importance of reaching out to others in need. Having a compassionate heart, lending a hand or even a dollar can make a world of difference. With time, support and effort we can feed the hungry, shelter the homeless and educate those less fortunate than ourselves. In 2010, Colby helped found Lespwa Haiti, an organization that aims to help bring back the focus on the continued struggle, hope and perseverance of the Haitian people. By working closely with multiple small NGOs on the ground in Haiti, the project has been able to document the amazing stories and unique individuals who are fighting for a better tomorrow.
In 2011, Colby founded The Giving Lens, an organization that blends photo education and giving back to local communities through sustainable development projects (NGOs). TGL offers photography workshops that act like fundraisers in various countries around the world. These not only allow you to further your photography skills, but make a tangible difference in the lives of the people we work with along the way.
[blockquote cite=”Albert Einstein” type=”center”]”A human being is a part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feeling as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of poison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.”[/blockquote]
Global Statistics: Over 1 billion people – 1 in 6 people around the world – live in extreme poverty, defined as living on less than $1 a day. The GDP (Gross Domestic Product) of the poorest 48 nations (i.e. a quarter of the world’s countries) is less than the wealth of the world’s three richest people combined. More than 840 million people in the world are malnourished, 799 million of them live in the developing world. About 115 million children are missing primary education and 60% of them are girls.
