Welcome to
Colby Brown Photography
I became a photographer back in 2006, rapidly rising in the ranks of the photo industry. I created my company, Colby Brown Photography, to offer my services to the public and corporations. I spent countless hours studying the latest photography techniques, exploring camera technology and photo editing. This learning curve opened my eyes to the world of photography education by exploring the world and using these techniques in the field.
I was leading photography workshops for National Geographic in South America, further spurring my love for both travel and photo education. Over the years, I have developed photography workshops that take you to wondrous locations around the globe while teaching the different disciplines of photography. Each workshop is carefully planned to offer the best scenic locations to create memorable adventure while allowing me to share my knowledge and experience.
Today, I am a professional photographer, photo educator and author living in Eastern Pennsylvania with my family. The meticulously researched photography workshops I created, specialize in landscape, travel and wildlife photography, I am fortunate to work all over the globe, across all 7 continents, documenting various cultures, environments and species in pursuit of capturing life on this planet. Following my heart and my passions, I dedicate a lot of my time to working with small NGOs, charities and initiative programs while on the road. If you have been looking for a way to give back, check out my NGO, The Giving Lens. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out and contact me. Thanks for stopping by! Enjoy!
Each year I run photography workshop adventures around the globe in some of the most incredible locations on the planet such as Patagonia, Iceland, Norway, Cuba, Africa and much more…
Throughout my career I have created a number of tutorials, video courses & e-books that cover everything from social media and business to post-processing (Adobe, Capture One & On1 Photo RAW). You can find these in the Photography Education section of this website.

Client Testimonials

This workshop with Colby was like watching National Geographic unfold in real-time — only better, because we had front row seats and amazing guides making sure we didn’t become part of the food chain.
But the real secret sauce? The people. Our group of photographers was like a bear-loving, adventure-chasing comedy troupe. Every day was full of laughter, inside jokes, and enough shared snacks to survive a(…)
mild apocalypse. And the family and crew who ran the camp? Absolute legends. They made us feel welcome, safe, and totally spoiled in the middle of the Alaskan wilderness — which is not an easy feat when you’re surrounded by creatures that could you make you their next energy bar. This workshop gave me unforgettable moments and great memories. I came for the wildlife and the epic scenery… but I left with a full heart, sore abs from hiking and laughing, and a new adventure family. There’s also a boot hole named after me in the mud somewhere on mile two, but that’s a story for another day. Bring some Dramamine, Aspercreme, a walking stick , a raincoat and room for great food as Chef Callum fed us crazy great meals like we were going into our own hibernation.
Cheers

This was our first tour with Colby and upon arrival we were quite anxious to embark on our journey, which started almost immediately after introductions and a brief meeting regarding logistics. Our tour was broken up into 4 different locales, each offering something unique. Whether we were photographing the exotic and beautiful birds of Costa Rica, the colorful and unique reptiles and amphibians, or the(…)
amazing bats, it was always a thrill, so much so that at the end of each day we would say “that was my favorite part so far”, day after day. New for us was the macro work, as well as the flash skills, which we both hope to use again in the future. Each day seemed to build on the next. Colby was great at making sure that we all were comfortable with our cameras and settings and was particularly skilled at bringing everyone’s skills up to speed, answering questions along the way … and believe me, we didn’t hold back. LOL. Even more than that, he always made sure to not only answer our questions, but also took the time to challenge us to be sure that we understood why. His local guide and assistant during our tour, Kenneth, was equally amazing and a skilled photographer as well, so that was an added bonus. Both were quite passionate, whether herping or birding, it was quite infectious, and before long we found ourselves just as excited. Every part of the tour was so well executed, the lodges were quite comfortable and our meals were delicious. An amazing trip, so much learned, new experiences galore, great conversations, lots of laughs, and many new friends made along the way. As we said earlier, this was our first trip with Colby … and we doubt it will be our last. Thanks so much!
This about sums up my last three unforgettable adventures with Colby—and this one was equally amazing! This was the 11th workshop I signed up for with Colby and he didn’t disappoint! We journeyed to Katmai National Park and Preserve in Alaska, right in time for the legendary salmon run. The main event? Brown bears galore—from massive adults to playful young cubs, fishing (or at least trying to) in the(…)
rushing rivers. Some were skilled “fisherbears” ; others… let’s just say their technique was a work in progress. It was equal parts inspiring and hysterical. What made this workshop stand out was the daily travel by seaplane to reach remote bear-viewing areas. These flights offered jaw-dropping aerial views of Alaska’s vast wilderness—snow-capped peaks, glacial valleys, sparkling lakes, and even the occasional moose wandering on the beach. Simply breathtaking. Our first major stop was the iconic Brooks Falls, where we hoped to catch the classic shot of a bear snatching a leaping salmon mid-air. Before that, we had to attend “bear school”—a mandatory orientation that covers safety protocols, bear behavior, and what to do if one decides to cross your path (hint: it will happen). Safety is serious business, so don’t miss this orientation plus you get a nice bear pin. Thanks to Colby’s permit, we had rare access to walk along the riverbanks, which made for incredible photo opportunities. At times, we were surprisingly close—but always under the watchful eye of Colby/experience guides. Not once did I feel unsafe. We stayed at the Alaska Wilderness Adventure Lodge, which was exceptional. Cozy accommodations, top-notch service, and they provided all the necessary gear—waders, boots, and more. The food? Incredible!!!. They have chefs on staff who catered to dietary restrictions in our group without missing a beat. Every meal was delicious.Colby this was another once-in-a-lifetime experience!! “I Will Be Back”
